The Calvert Casa

As of 3:30 this afternoon, I became a homeowner.  The nerves were definitely there, knowing I was taking on this endeavor on my own.  The past year has been full of ups and downs.  I do feel content about the whole situation and that makes my heart happy.

Downsizing by 1075 feet has me feeling a bit overwhelmed.  Where am I going to put all of my stuff?  Will there be enough room for the dogs to run around?  Can I fix this?  Where should I put that?  Over the past few days, I have been able to move all of my belongings and have began the decorating process.  I keep telling myself that the long to-do list doesn't have to be accomplished overnight, though I wish it could!

Through the whole move I have found that I have an AMAZING support system.  They are making sure that all of the electrical is good, replacing what isn't, and making sure that I am completely fine with every detail.  A year ago, I thought I was losing so much. Today I realize that I have gained more than I could have ever imagined.  I am happy.  I have my smile back.  I am free.

I can't wait to update the blog with renovations of the new house.  The Calvert Casa is my sweet little 825 sq. ft. home.  Me and Murphy and Franklin are sure to fill this place with sweet memories.  I so appreciate all of the kind words, prayers, and well wishes from all of those who mean so much to me.

  2. Congratulations! Seeing how I have spent the last 15 years in the same size space as your going into, I can honestly say that once you get used to the small size you'll never want any bigger!

    House is looking great!

Pear Butter

This year I have canned and harvested more food than I have in my whole entire life.  Through the many changes and difficulties that I have faced over the past year, I find great comfort in growing food, getting my hands and feet dirty in the garden, and being able to pick the goods that have grown.  I'm happy to say that I have an abundance of salsa, corn, green beans, tomatoes, peach preserves, pickles, and banana peppers.   I want to continue this lifestyle, of growing my own food and putting it away for later.  I love knowing where my food is coming from and what is being put into it.  I have accepted a lot of food this summer too, and I gladly receive it, knowing that I can try to learn and make something new.  A lady that I work with gave me two boxes of pears.  Not ever being much of a pear lover in the past, I didn't really know what to do with them.  I did a little bit of research while they ripened up for the week and found a quic...

A Friendly Introduction

Hello world!  It has been quite some time since my last blog post.  My world has been very complicated, and at times I didn't see, or better chose not to see, what God was doing in my life.  Through all of the difficulties I chose to lean on the Lord.  I have in no way been perfect and still struggle from day to day.  I try not to dwell on the past.  I am thankful for everything that I have been through and experienced.  It has made me the woman that I am today.  I can say that I am extremely excited for the future and all that it holds. All of that to say I have decided to blog more on the happenings of my life.  You may or may not even care about what I say or what I do, and that is more than fine.  Honestly, this blog is more for me than anything.  Think of it as a web based journal, a way for me to record the special happenings that take place.  You will more than likely see a lot of posts about reading material, being th...

Characteristics of a Cedar Tree

Growing up, we always had an artificial tree. While they’re beautiful, and I have fond memories of dragging it out of the attic every year and fluffing it’s pointy branches, I have come to appreciate and adore our new tradition as a family. Together, we choose a tree, chop it down, and plant it in our living room to admire through the Christmas holiday. Few may choose the prickly cedar tree. However, it has become the one we gravitate towards. Probably because they’re unwanted nuisances in the yard. Mostly because they’re aromatic, easy to spruce up, and quick to adorn with our favorite ornaments. The cedar tree symbolizes strength, eternity, and endurance. Poets from around the world have written about this simple conifer for centuries. In the late 19th century, author John Worcester compared the structure of the cedar tree to the process of attaining successively higher natural and spiritual knowledge, writing, “The spiritual tree also must extend its branches, put forth leaves, ...
