A Friendly Introduction

Hello world!  It has been quite some time since my last blog post.  My world has been very complicated, and at times I didn't see, or better chose not to see, what God was doing in my life.  Through all of the difficulties I chose to lean on the Lord.  I have in no way been perfect and still struggle from day to day.  I try not to dwell on the past.  I am thankful for everything that I have been through and experienced.  It has made me the woman that I am today.  I can say that I am extremely excited for the future and all that it holds.

All of that to say I have decided to blog more on the happenings of my life.  You may or may not even care about what I say or what I do, and that is more than fine.  Honestly, this blog is more for me than anything.  Think of it as a web based journal, a way for me to record the special happenings that take place.  You will more than likely see a lot of posts about reading material, being that I am a librarian and all.  I'm sure you'll see a lot of posts on my dogs, Franklin Webster and Murphy, my two Scottie boys.  Soon, I will be moving, and I'm sure there will be lots of posts on the changes taking place there.  I have recently taken up gardening and canning, something that I have enjoyed so much this summer.  I love sharing recipes and want to help others.  Hopefully in some way, this blog might reach a certain someone and help them with their new endeavors as well.

I want to dedicate this blog to my precious Mema, Betty Joyce Copas.  I was named after her back on June 29th, 1987.  At 11.59 p.m. I came into this world and I was named Amanda Joyce Calvert.  This blog captures "Joyce".  Joyce means cheerful and merry.  I hope that in some way I can be joyful, cheerful, and merry to those that I come across.  I love my name, I love where I've came from, and I love where this crazy thing called life is taking me.  Hold on friends!  Here we go!

Characteristics of a Cedar Tree

Growing up, we always had an artificial tree. While they’re beautiful, and I have fond memories of dragging it out of the attic every year and fluffing it’s pointy branches, I have come to appreciate and adore our new tradition as a family. Together, we choose a tree, chop it down, and plant it in our living room to admire through the Christmas holiday. Few may choose the prickly cedar tree. However, it has become the one we gravitate towards. Probably because they’re unwanted nuisances in the yard. Mostly because they’re aromatic, easy to spruce up, and quick to adorn with our favorite ornaments. The cedar tree symbolizes strength, eternity, and endurance. Poets from around the world have written about this simple conifer for centuries. In the late 19th century, author John Worcester compared the structure of the cedar tree to the process of attaining successively higher natural and spiritual knowledge, writing, “The spiritual tree also must extend its branches, put forth leaves, ...

Happy New Year!

2017 ended beautifully!  I collected a dozen eggs the last week of December, and cooked them all in a matter of a few days.  My girls, Gimpy Gertie & Mama Myrtle, make some delicious eggs.  That makes my heart & my tummy happy.  I reflected over the past year, as most everyone did.  There were many bumps in the road.  Getting robbed was no fun.  Going through the big D was terrible.  Family circumstance has torn my heart into pieces.  On the flip side, I met a guy who is absolutely amazing.  And his little boy melts my heart into a big soupy puddle.  I sold my house and bought the cutest little home.  I have so enjoyed making it my own and will continue to do so throughout the year.  A brand new life has been given to me and I am soaking up every bit of it.  I am now a Muck boot wearing gal who finds comfort in pulling on her overalls and Carhartt jacket to help out Andrew.  I love taking car...
